BANDAPALOOZA!!!!!!!

Monday, March 24th is the annual Franklin Township Bandapalooza Concert! All of the Franklin Township bands will be performing at this awesome concert!

Bandapalooza is free of charge.
All of the Kitley Cougar Band students need to be at FCHS no later than 6:30pm dressed in their black and white concert attire and report to the high school band room to drop off their cases and coats.
Warm-up will take place in the main gym along with the concert performance.
Bandapalooza starts at 7:00pm in the main gym at Franklin Central High School.
Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough is available for purchase as well!

COUGAR BAND ROCKS AT ISSMA ORGANIZATION CONTEST!

On Saturday, March 15, the Kitley Cougar Band competed at the ISSMA District Organization Contest hosted at Center Grove Middle School North. The Cougar Band scored some of the best scores for the entire event at that site from all three ISSMA judges and missed a perfect score from one judge by 1/2 point! Our new ISSMA gold plaque will be presented to the school in May and hung with the other ISSMA accomplishments as another Cougar Band performance to remember! There are CD's available in case you missed the ISSMA performance for a discounted price.

CINCINNATI TRIP SECOND PAYMENT PAYMENT DEADLINE!

The second payment for the Cincinnati Trip is Due on March 3rd. All checks can be made out to Kitley Intermediate School. The second payment amount is $30.00, the entire trip cost per student is $98.00

ISSMA BAND CONTEST MARCH 15th

On Saturday March 15th the Kitley Cougar Band will travel to Center Grover North Middle School to participate in the ISSMA Organizational Contest. All Cougar Band students will be participating in this event and Need to be at school on Saturday March 15th no later than 6:45am dressed in their black and white concert attire. The Cougar Band performs at 8:45am at Center Grove North Middle School in Greenwood and will return to Kitley at 9:45am.

FEBRUARY 12th Solo and Ensemble Dinner night!

On February 12th at 6:30pm we will be hosting an evening of Solo and Ensemble music provided by our fine Kitley Cougar Band members who competed in the ISSMA District Solo and Ensemble Contest on January 26th. The concert will be in the band room and pizza will be provided for all spectators and performers. This is one last chance for parents, friends and family members to hear their Cougar Band students perform their solo and ensemble music.

ISSMA ORGANIZATION CONTEST

The ISSMA Organization Band Contest is right around the corner and we are working very hard to prepare for it. This year the ISSMA Organization Contest will be hosted at Center Grover North Middle School. Our performance time will come at a later date however, judging from past years, we will probably perform around 8:30am. COUGAR BAND ROCKS AT SOLO AND ENSEMBLE

On Saturday, January 26th many members of the Kitley Cougar Band participated in the ISSMA District Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Perry Meridian 6th Grade Academy. The Cougar Band was very well represented with 20 events entered in the contest and earned 35 gold medals and 2 silver medals over the course of the day. Congrats on many outstanding performances Cougar Band Solo and Ensemble participants!

Cougar Band and Flashes Pep Band

All members of the Cougar Band are more than welcome to join the Franklin Central Flashes Pep Band at all of the games. A complete list of pep band games will be posted later but the first one will be Friday, December 7th and the call will be 6:00pm in the FCHS band room. Cougar Band students just need to bring their instrument and they will get into the game for free. More information on future pep band games will come later.

JOB WELL DONE COUGAR BAND

The Kitley Cougar Band performed their first concert of the 2007-2008 school year on Thursday, December 6 in the Kitley auditeria and it was a hit. More than 350 proud parents, friends and family member came to see their young Cougar Band students take the stage. It was an awesome site to see and a wonderful evening of Christmas Music. Excellent Job Cougar Band Bravo!

This is just a reminder that the Kitley Cougar Band Christmas Concert will be on Thursday, December 6th at 7:00pm in the Kitley auditeria. All Cougar Band students are to be at school no later than 6:15pm dressed in their black and white concert attire along with festive Christmas stuff! To prepare for the Christmas concert we will be have a few extra rehearsals before school on the following dates:

COUGAR BAND APPLEBEES' NIGHT!

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th the Kitley Cougar Band will be having it's APPLEBEES' Night at Greenwood Park Mall. This is the best fundraiser ever, just bring your Applebees' flyer with you to dinner a part of your bill will go toward the Kitley Cougar Band program to help purchase instruments, music and other band supplies. If you still need an Applebees' flyer I have plenty more in the band room!

Marching Flashes Perform for Cougars!

On Friday, October 26 the Franklin Central Marching Flashes performed a stand still performance of their show for the entire student body at Kitley Intermediate School with special guests, the Kitley Cougar Band! It was an amazing performance by all of the high school students and it gave the young Cougar Band students a glimpse of what is in store for them in the future when they are in high school. It was extremely loud, but truly amazing and as we say at the high school "One band, One Sound"!

ISSMA SOLO AND ENSEMBLE

The Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) is hosting its annual District Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, January 26th at Perry Meridian 6th Grade Academy and Middle School. Solo and Ensemble is a chance for students to perform in small ensembles or as a soloist in front of an instrumental adjudicator. Those students who participate are awarded a medal based on their performance, a gold medal for superior performance, silver medal for excellent performance, and bronze for a good performance. This is a great opportunity for students to push themselves individually as musicians and explore the opportunities in smaller ensembles as well instead of just a concert band. The entry fee for solo and ensemble are as follows:

$6.00 Per Solo

$12.00 Per Member Of An Ensemble

ALL SOLO AND ENSEMBLE FORMS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd. ALL FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN WITH THE ENTRY FEES.

All Cougar Band students should be prepared to take a playing test over Winter Wonderland the week of October 15th.

COUGAR BAND TAILGATES WITH MARCHING FLASHES

On Friday, October 5th the Kitley Cougar Band celebrated with the Franklin Central Marching Flashes as they debuted their brand new band semi at the home football game vs. Lawrence Central. The Cougar Band enjoyed some live music by the "Hot Flashes" jazz band and pep band along with hot dogs, chips and drinks all provided by the Franklin Central Band Boosters. History Of Kitley Cougar Band

The Kitley Cougar Band is currently in it's 6th year of activiation after Kitley Intermediate School opened up in August of 2002. All of the students who participate in the Cougar Band are beginners who have played their instruments for one year or less. The Cougar Band has many accomplishments including five gold awards from the ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) Organizational Contest as well as numerous gold awards earned by Cougar Band members individually at the district solo and ensmeble contest. The Cougar Band has also taken first place the past 4 years at the Showcase Music Festival in Cincinnati, OH and is a featured ensemble at the annual Franklin Township Bandpalooza Concert.

Welcome to the home of the Kitley Cougar Band Blog! The Kitley Cougar Band is a 120 member ensemble composed of 6th grade students at Kitley Intermediate School located in the southeast corner of Indianapolis, Indiana. Kitley Intermediate School currently has over 1200 students in grades 5 and 6 but is expected to be cut in half by the year 2008-2009 when the new intermediate school is finished. The Kitley Cougar band is under the direction of Sarah Dunblazier who is serving her 7th year in Franklin Township and 9th year teaching. Sarah is also the assistant director of bands at Franklin Central High School. You can also visit the Kitley Intermediate School website.
